Argentina is an international zone on European plans, and it has one quirk that makes it dearer than it looks: the trips are long. Two or three weeks is the norm, and that is where a daily pass multiplies.

## The daily-pass problem on long trips

A pass that activates when you use the phone seems reasonable for a weekend and stops being reasonable on a twenty-day trip, because it activates twenty times. It is the sum almost nobody does before leaving.

And very little sets it off: an incoming message with a photo, a notification or an app syncing in the background is enough to burn the whole day.

## What to check first

1. Which zone Argentina is in on your plan.
2. Whether the pass is billed per calendar day or per 24 hours from first use.
3. What happens when the bundle runs out: whether it cuts off or switches to pay-as-you-go.
4. The spending cap set on your line.

## Coverage, which shapes the trip

Good in Buenos Aires and the large cities, and with long gaps on the Patagonian routes and in the national parks of the south. On a road trip, a fair part of the time you will have no signal however much you are paying for it.

Coverage area by area is in [the guide to internet in Argentina](https://getgigapass.com/en/blog/internet-in-argentina).

## And the borders

If the route crosses into Chile, Brazil or Uruguay, each country is a different zone on your plan and a destination plan covers only its own. At mountain crossings, on top of that, the phone hops networks easily.

In Patagonia, telling someone your plan for the day is worth more than any tariff: there are stretches where you will not be able to call for help for hours.

Leaving soon?

Pick the days and the data you need. Install it before you leave and pay once.

## Frequently asked questions

**Is roaming free in Argentina?**

No. It is an international zone on European plans and depends on what yours includes.

**Why does the daily pass work out so expensive?**

Because trips to Argentina usually last two or three weeks, and a pass that activates every day you use the phone multiplies by the days of the trip.

**What activates the pass?**

Any data use, including notifications and background syncing. A single message with a photo is enough to burn the whole day.

**Is there coverage in Patagonia?**

In the towns yes; on the routes between them and in the national parks there are long gaps.

**Does the plan work if I cross into Chile?**

No, unless it is a regional one. Each country is a different zone and a destination plan covers only its own.
