Changing country every other day breaks any normal data plan. What fits a rotation and what to leave set up once and for all.

The crew's data problem is not volume: it is frequency. Four countries in six days, twenty-hour layovers, and a suitcase that does not wait for anyone to configure anything.

## Why normal plans do not fit

- A single-country plan goes to waste if you sleep there one night.
- The operator's daily passes activate at every destination and add up fast.
- Installing a new profile on every rotation is not workable on those timings.
- And the wifi in the crew hotel is frequently the worst in the building.

## What does fit

Regional or global plans, precisely for what would be their weak point for a holidaymaker: they cover many countries on a single installation. What to check first is the specific country list for your routes and which network they use in each one.

And a setup you do once: usual line for calls and messages, data plan as the data line, data roaming off on your own.

What that setup looks like, step by step, is in [your SIM card and an eSIM at the same time](https://getgigapass.com/en/blog/use-sim-and-esim-at-the-same-time).

## The places where you will have nothing

On board, unless the airline offers a connection, and in transit through the international zones of some airports where the wifi demands a local number to register. With your own data, that registration stops being a problem.

> On a four-country rotation, the right plan is not the cheapest: it is the one you never have to touch again.

## And the practical side of resting

Downloading in advance whatever you plan to watch or listen to is what turns a long layover into rest. In a hotel with slow wifi, streaming is the fastest route to staring at a loading screen.

Check whether your plan covers the countries on your routes BEFORE the first rotation, not in the hotel on the third layover.

Know where you're going?

Pick your destination, days and data. Install it before you leave and pay once.

## Frequently asked questions

**Which data plan fits a rotation?**

A regional or global one covering the countries on your routes with a single installation, checking the specific list and the networks it uses in each country first.

**Why not a plan per country?**

Because it goes to waste if you sleep one night at each destination, and because installing a new profile on every rotation is not workable.

**What about the operator's daily passes?**

They activate at every destination and on a multi-country rotation they add up very fast.

**Does the wifi in crew hotels work?**

Sometimes, and often it is marginal. Having your own data means not depending on it after a long flight.
